Bloom Where You Are Planted - year in review

WHEW! When did 2014 disappear? I mean for real I feel like we just moved here and started life in the boonies, but it's now been over a year and a half!!

2014 has been a year full of lessons.
Lessons on life, love, and laughter (cheese ball, sorry). In all seriousness looking back on the year I've realized that Reed and I (mostly me) have learned a lot about growing up and living life. I believe we truly have finally started to bloom where we were planted :)

To give you an idea of how much we have grown here is a quick review of some of my big lessons I've shared with y'all here in blog land!

Learned to control my social media tendencies and challenged myself to be a Supportive Wife On and Off Line

Realized that my pride was hurting me and talked about how that realization changed my life.

Started the Envelope Budget! It may not sound exciting but it has been a HUGE help, and exciting experience :)

Went to New York City!!!

Had an amazing summer with so much fun I didn't post about it :) oops!

Took part in my first ever craft festival and it was a hit!

Rebranded myself to help shake out some big ideas.

The biggest and most exciting part of my year.
It's a seasonal shop and I plan on doing an update on it again in the new year. Who woulda thought that at 24 I would be business owner, complete with taxes :)

If you look back at my "blog year" I didn't do much. But if you look back at my LIFE so much has happened! I'm excited for 2015 and all that we can learn and achieve with another years time! I hope each of you learned lots and enjoyed your 2014 year but I hope even more that you will learn to bloom where you have been planted in 2015!

Custom Wine Buffet

Guess what peeps!!??!
This is my first ever commissioned piece of furniture! I L-O-V-E furniture but until recently I usually just redo things. Ya know, paint, refinishing, small things. But luckily with the way my etsy shop has grown I've been able to save up to do some of my bigger projects. But this one is even more exciting than saving and doing something for myself, this piece was COMMISSIONED. Meaning somone actually believed in me to get me to do something totally just for them. sayyyyy waaaa :)

So here is a great big post of basically just detail shots of my first ever commissioned piece of work :)

This is a 70in wine buffet that can hold up to 10 wine bottles and 16 wine glasses.
Perfect for a party!!
Made with pine and steel we left it all very raw for a primitive and rustic look.
The glass top keeps everything really open and light. And what a fun way to choose what you want to sip that night :)

Basically, Reed and I are in love. We can't get over how awesome this was to build and if we had space in our house we may not have been willing to give it up! We also wouldn't be able to fill it up with wine so we decided it needed a good home that could give it all it was capable of.

And of course Tepe had to model :) She is too funny, I tried my hardest to get her out of the way and she literally sat there for most of the shots. Eventually she chased after a falling pine cone and let me get to work!

Also, I'm getting ready to head out of the country for the Holidays. So no more posts from me for a while, not even parties :( I hope you guys take this break too and enjoy your family while being unplugged. Merry Christmas and can't wait to catch up in a few weeks!!

The Studio at Flying King Ranch - Drop in & Grand Opening

Last weekend  I finally got to see the fruit of some pretty big dreams and hard work. As I've talked about a lot on social media and at the Making Monday parties I've been putting together and working on opening a store front here in York, SC. I've talked about how it has affected my blog and it's brand  and shared a little bit of how big of a blessing this is.

Well Saturday Nov. 15th 2014 I officially opened my doors to The Studio at Flying King Ranch. It was a bigger event than I thought would occur and it was so beautiful to see how trusting the Lord makes your plans so much better!

I was lucky enough to have a professional photographer/friend capture the day and now no matter how business goes I will always have proof of the beautiful grand opening!

Incase you've missed it, Flying King Ranch is where my husband, Reed, works. We moved here about a year and a half ago for him to fulfill one of his dreams of being a land manager for almost 5,000 acres. He has loved the job and the life that came with it from day one but I took a bit more convincing. If you where around the blog last year you saw lots of heavy hearted posts, social media posts that attempted to hide bitterness and some other ugly things come out of my heart. I didn't have friends, couldn't find a job, and just overall didn't feel like I belonged here.

But thankfully the Lord worked on me and taught me more about trust than I knew there was to learn. He constantly gave me chances to pursue His desires and I learned that even when I thought the plan was certain that it could change from what I had in my head. I learned to just keep walking and He will lead me in the direction I needed to go.

As I realized that it wasn't so much a "job" that I needed but to be more trusting in the pursuit of what the Lord laid on my heart I was given the opportunity to open up a shop. I was approached by the Ranch owners and asked if I would help them use some of the buildings on the ranch and to create a "destination" of sorts.  Talk of this started in late August after my ETSY shop more than tripled in sales and I was finally able to start contributing to our finances. I felt confident enough to start writing down my vision and to discuss it with the owners to see if we were on the same page. By the beginning of October I had a meeting with the owners and land managers (yes, one was Reed) and we discussed logistics, dates, and names. And some how the Lord spoke through me and allowed me to so deeply impress the owners that the final words of the meeting were "go for it! Run with it, you obviously know what you want and have a good plan set a head of you."

Never in a million years did I expect a successful business woman to look at me at the age of 24 and say, "go for it, run with it!" She trusted me to fill out the plan I had laid in front of her and that was the most encouraging thing that has ever happened to me.

So I ran for it. I moved forward faster than I thought possible and at times really freaked myself out because I felt so lost in all of the movement! But by the end of October I had the space cleaned out, set up, and ready for inventory. I had contacted friends and family and asked for their support by allowing me to use their creative work as inventory. I wanted the shop to be a place that highlighted creativity and that gave encouragement to artists that maybe haven't totally figured it out yet. I received so much work, and it was all amazing quality I couldn't believe that I had a shop and that it was filled with beautiful things that people would actually buy! God blessed this shop by totally giving me the words to speak to the artists, and giving them the trust to allow me to control their work for a while.

Right now the shop has over 10 artists all located within 4 hours of the ranch.

So the shop was open for 2 weeks before the Grand Opening and I was lucky enough to have time to figure out the quirks before the flood gates opened. I rearranged multiple times, met some amazing people that visited and encouraged my vision. And before I knew it Nov. 15th was here and I was freaking out! I couldn't sleep, didn't really eat and just felt like I had so much to get done. But again I was reminded that within 1 month I had taken nothing but a dream and made it a reality and it was all because I was willing to walk the way the Lord showed me.

At 11 am November 15th we had the first couple walk through the door and make a purchase. Then we had over 50 people come and made over $800. Each artist made at least 1 sale and we had lots of empty spots to fill by the end of the day.

So now I am a store owner, still figuring out what that means and how to get more customers, and keep up the inventory. I don't know how long this will last but I do know I will soak it up.  I'm going to keep walking and praying and listening to the Lord. I'm sure if He can turn a 24 year old that didn't know what she was doing in to a "business owner" He can help me make it through the rest :)

If you are ever in the York, SC area please come visit me! I would love to show you around and brag on some of the work in the shop.

To end it all, that was an unbelievable beginning.

ReBranding! Kitchen Table Art - Grace Langdon Art

Hey y'all I've been off and on blogging for a while now.
I love blogging so I'm not ready for a break and specially not ready to give it up all together!
So what I've decided to do is connect my art and my blog. I started this transition a few months ago when I started my art lesson series >>>>> link on side bar :)
But now I'm gonna take it to the next level and get rid of Kitchen Table Art all together! I loved the name and it meant a lot to me but as an artist I need something easily identifiable so my name it is!
Now you can find me under Grace Langdon Art on everything (ETSY, Instagram, Twitter, working on Facebook)! It may take a little bit to get used to and to transition every link BUT I'm confident it's the right choice and that our relationship is good enough for you to follow me through this transition :) Luckily y'all won't have to re-follow me because I was able to simple change my names/handles. But PLEASE remember when your trying to get in contact with me that Kitchen Table Art no longer exists!

So finally, here are all of my Social Media and Shop links with the updated name!

Now, heres a tiny explanation for all those STORE photos flooding my social media!
At the moment I'm on a crazy adventure to see what it's like to have a PHYSICAL REAL LIFE STORE FRONT!

This new adventure is a huge blessing from the Lord and just proof that when you listen to Him he will lead you places you never expected you would be. I never thought that moving to the boondocks would give me a once in a life time chance to open up an artistic boutique that features all kinds of talented artists. I'm excited to see how the community reacts and where we go from here. So be sure to check out my social media where I update almost daily :)

Oh, and if you are anywhere close to York, SC come visit me! I would love to have y'all stop in and say hey :)
