GUEST POSTTTTTTTT!!
Thats right, Meegan is sharing a project with us today.
Meegan and I have been becoming great friend through the blog would and I just thought it would be fitting to introduce her to my other blogger friends!
Hope you enjoy the fresh ideas and will hop over to check Meegan out!

Good Morning all of you Kitchen Table Art readers!! I am Meegan from What Meegan Makes and I am honored to be guest posting for Grace today! Isn't she great! I just love her!!
I am a vintage loving, grand baby kissing, beach going, shell finding, paint hungry kind of woman, and I love to blog about all of these things-sometimes even combined!   Today I would like to share a small and simple project with a big impact.
 This is my living room.
I really like how everything pulled together. BUT, I wanted a frame around the book page wreath.

While out thrifting one day...
I found a frame!!
Yep, $7 and BRAND new!!

To prepare my new frame I mixed various green craft paints and antique white.
After "Semi" painting the frame (meaning I didn't cover it perfectly-many areas are an uneven thickness of paint), I sanded it with Medium 100 grit sand paper. I am SO excited!!

After sanding, I hung my new "pretty" in our living room!! It is just how I pictured!!
Yay!! Not too shabby, wouldn't you say??? I think she completes this wall. Don't you love when that happens??? Me, too!!
Some other projects I have done around our home:
Thanks for letting me share my new treasure with you! It has been a real pleasure to be with you today. Thanks again, Grace!! It has been a BLAST!!
I hope you will visit me sometime over at What Meegan Makes.
Make it a great day!!

Toilet Paper Crafts

I know its a week from Christmas so its almost too late to be postin more Christmas crafts.
But these are some fun easy and FREE decorations.

For our Burlap Christmas Tree  we needed a star.
I tried to find one at the dollar store and Wal-Mart but I just didn't like any.
I had been saving toilet paper and paper towel tubes for awhile and decided this would be a fun project  to use them for.

First I cut up the rolls in to about half inch pieces.

Then I  glued pieces together at the ends.

Once I had the pieces started I then began just playing around and trying to make a star shape.
I found that using hot glue allowed this project to go fairly quickly.

This was the end shape that I came up with. I started with the 4 glued together and then just filled in the gaps until I ran out of pieces.  I love the way it turned out :)

My favorite craft are these Toilet Paper Reindeer!
I wanted some decorations other than on the tree so I decided to make something small to put on the book shelf.

For this craft I just used 3 toilet paper tubes, twigs from the yard, and hot glue.

I started off with 1 whole tube as the body and added 4 twigs as the legs.
I just put a drop of hot glue  where I wanted the legs placed.
Mine are a little wonky but I thought that added character :)

Then I cut another tube in half and used it as the head. I added a smaller thicker twig for the neck and glued it to both the head and body.
Then I added forked twigs for the antlers.
This craft took a little longer than the star but was still less than 20 minutes total.

Both of these crafts where so fun!
I think they both look great unfinished but was thinking today that spraying the deer white would add a little more winter whimsy.
I'm probably going to leave the deer out all year just cause I think they are so cute!

Now that it is a week before Christmas I am finally finished decorating :)
Reed and I leave on Thursday the 20th go fly down to Nicaragua and spend Christmas with his family.
I know I've been posting really randomly lately but I wont post anything for about a week.
I'm gonna try and keep yall updated on facebook and instagram but who knows!

I hope that each and every one of you have a fabulous Holiday season with your family!!
Don't forget that Meegan from What Meegan Makes will be guest posting on Wednesday!

Easy Puff Ball Ornaments

I know Christmas is right around the corner.
I've been meaning to post this for a while but life got a way from me.

Here is another tutorial for some of my DIY under $5 decorations!

For this project I just wanted more contrast for our "mantel".
I decided to create some yarn balls.

First things first.
The only thing you need for these ornaments are scissors and yarn!
1. Wrap the yarn around your palm about 100 times.
I typically don't count but just get it to cover almost my entire palm and let it bulge a little.

2. Slide the yarn off your hand and
3. place a cut piece of yarn under the wrapped yarn ball.

4. Then tie the loose piece TIGHTLY around the wrapped yarn.
(It will look like this)

5. Then take the scissors and cut the edges all the way around.
This will create a ball that you can then trim to nearly whatever size you'd like!!
Mine are about palm size. I didn't trim them too much, I liked the frayed puffiness.

This is what I was planning on using as our mantel this year.
I got a grapevine wreath for Fall and unwrapped it to stretch across the top.
Covered a wire wreath with yarn to make the white one.
And then the red and silver flowers are from the Dollar store!!
I was looking for some cheap stockings to personalized but never found any that jumped out...
Looks like stockings are going to be a project for next year!

Glitter Lightbulb Ornaments!

This is our first Christmas as newly weds!
I wanted to do something that made it really feel like Christmas in our itsy bitsy house but we decided that I needed to decorate on a low budget.
That really meant I had no budget so it needed to be what I had laying around :)

I already shared how I made our tree out of burlap and a tomato stand.
Check it out here

So, our tree was made with a $5 budget which meant I needed to have even cheaper ornaments.
I went to the Dollar Store and bought light bulbs, glue, glitter and ornament hooks for a total of $5!
(I just love the Dollar store! I make sure I go there as a first stop to any project)

First things first.
Just squirt some regular school glue on the light bulb
Then smooth out the glue so that the glitter sticks all over and not sure where the glue is.

Then I just poured on the glitter!
I used a paper plate to catch the glitter that didn't stick and rolled the bulb around in that to fill it in.

I was really impressed by how cool they looked!!
Now to get them ready to hang on the tree!
I just wrapped some white yarn around the threads of the bulb and hooked my hook to it and
WA-LA!
Glitter Bulb Ornaments!!

Once Reed saw how thrifty I was being he allowed me to spend a few more.
I got the smaller light bulbs (like you use in Night Lites) from Lowes, on sale for abuot $1.20.
The clear ornaments are from Wal-Mart and where also about a $1.20.
I filled them with things from the yard.
And the snow flakes where from the Dollar Store, they where $1 for a pack of 10!!

I love our Christmas tree :)
I think it fits us and our itsy bitsy house perfectly!!
I spent about a total of $20 getting our house decorated!!

I love Christmas and I am so excited for my first Christmas as a wife and for my first Christmas as an official Lathrop! Reed and I will be heading to Nicaragua to spend Christmas with his family on the 20th and are staying for a week!
I love Christmas time but its even better when you can lay out on the beach with your family :)

Burlap Christmas Tree

This is the first time I've ever done my own decorating for the Holidays.
I've shared multiple times that our house is teeny, tiny, small.
So, we don't have a ton of room for a tree but I really wanted to decorate for
OUR FIRST CHRISTMAS :)

I decided that I needed to come up with something that would be cheap and unique.
We have about a million pieces of burlap from the wedding and decided that would be the perfect material. I got Reed to pick up a tomato stand from Lowes and decided to cover it in the burlap.

First step I drew out a pattern that I then cut it out of the burlap.

Once I cut out the pieces I then glued them to a piece of yarn.

I left enough room when glueing to allow the pieces to move freely.

I then wrapped the burlap banner around the upside down tomato stand.
TA DA!! It looks like a tree!
Lyd (my younger sister) says it looks like its dead, but
I LOVE IT.
The texture is so fun and it still leaves spaces for hanging ornaments.

Heres the (almost) finished tree!
I love the way it looks but it still needs some color.
I've got another post coming soon to show some of my homemade and cheap ornaments.

Hope everyone is having fun getting ready for the Holidays!
I know I'm enjoying the gift shopping and all of the fun crafts :)
