I love being an art student!

Obviously I am getting better at this whole blogging thing :) I may even need to slow down so I have stuff to talk about next week!
But, I'm so excited I finally scanned in my photos from my film photography class!! I have enjoyed this class so much more than I thought. I originally was taking this class to get it out of the way but it has me hooked. I'm almost positive I'm going to take this all the way through!
I'm using a Nikon F100 (this is a film camera for those of you didn't know) with a 35-135mm zoom lens that was a hand-me-down from my mom. For the class we are required to use the manual setting which, like the class, I also thought this requirement would be horrid. But, I've thoroughly enjoyed actually learning how to really make a photograph art. There are so many different settings and so many things to think about at once!
Because it is a FILM class we are also processing our own film and printing each individual photograph! AND I LOVE IT!!
Being in the dark room blasting music and doing trial and error is so relaxing! It's a process that takes a long time and smells kinda funny but I honestly crave being in the dark room.

I'll give a brief about each of our 4 projects:

Project 1: We learned how to capture motion in different ways: motion illustrated, motion arrested, and pan-action. (The first two photographs are pan-action and the third is motion arrested)

Project 2: We focused more on composition and paid more attention to the lighting for this project. For the first two photos they are focusing on light and shadow while the last three are focusing more on light and shadow.

Project 3: This project was for us to combine everything we have learned. We needed to be able to produce good images and good prints from the dark room. We had to shoot 4 rolls of film two of which had to be self-portraits while the other two had to be portraits of other people. Luckily I have a great boyfriend who not only allowed me to use him as a model but who also came along to help me with my self portraits! Reed would stand in while I focused and fixed all the settings and then we would switch places and he would push the button. I'm pretty sure he enjoyed it because by the end of both his session and my session he was giving me pointers ;)

Sorry this post is unbelievably long, but I hope you enjoyed my pictures because I sure enjoyed producing them!

I still have my final project to finish so that will be a post some time in the next couple of weeks.

I wanna hippopotamus Christmas...

First off, have you guys every heard this song?! It is totally amazing, definitely my favorite Christmas song of all time! (This is just a random video, I'm pretty sure the song doesn't have a real music video)

I've been in the holiday spirit lately, obviously
At work we have been decorated for Christmas for about a month now and I started playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving! Sadly, I haven't decorated or even started shopping yet. But my Pinterest account is full of great holiday crafts and gift ideas!
I already know that a few of my friends will be getting things off of my boards, but I'm not gonna spoil the surprise so I can't post it on here until after they receive them!
I've also already started selling a few holiday decorations at Razzberry Fizz and at Erin Galloway Interiors Christmas show. I thought I would share them with you to maybe get some of your juices flowing for this Holiday season!

These are a few of the Reindeer sketches that Erin sold in her Christmas show a few weeks ago.

I don't have images of any of the other holiday goodies I've been working on but I wanted to get give you a taste test. I'll be sure to keep you updated!

My True Colors

Alright, maybe I'm just more of a monthly blogger instead of a daily or weekly person... I would love to update the blog weekly and really make this blog something that is enjoyable and inspiring. But baby steps,  I'll get there eventually.

I know I say this almost ever post but I really do have a lot to talk about this time :) I've even got the posts all planned out! I'm going to finally show you guys my apartment and what it has turned in to since I last posted about it in August. I also still need to upload my photos from my photography class and show yall my last two sculpture assignments! SOO MUCH! But luckily, it is the end of the semester and I only have 2 weeks left of school and that means lots of down time to be creative and blog about it!

For now I want to show you guys my true colors :)

When I first moved in to my apartment I didn't want to paint because I wanted a crisp grey scale bedroom with the only color being my vibrant blue quilt. Well, thats changed a little bit.
Obviously, I have a lot more color in my life than I thought. And I must be drawn to blue and orange because almost everything in my room is a tint of one of those two! The desk you see in the corner is the desk that Reed and I made the first night I moved and the bed is an antique white iron bed I got from my parents.

The pillows where made by my Aunt and cousin as a gift three years ago and I absolutely love them to death. But, what is REALLY amazing is the fact that I received the quilt at the end of the bed this year as a gift. However, it wasn't from my aunt it was from Reeds parents who have only seen my room (and those pillow cases) maybe once. Apparently those are just my colors and every body knows it!

The only remnant of my original design plan is the wall at the foot of my bed. I have hung (obviously not officially hung, but they are there!) a few pieces of my artwork from my beginning drawing classes. Hopefully one day, probably not in this apartment, I will have these properly framed, matted, and hung in a way that covers an entire wall with nothing but charcoal and graphite drawings!

This big armoire  is also from a previous post where it went under a pretty big change. It still needs a little tweaking but its good enough for now.

And, my colors seem to be really contagious because not only are they really prominent in my room but they have also snuck in to the living room!

I finally got something up on the chicken wire wall! Not sure what exactly it is but me and the roommates sure had fun making it! All we did was staple the wire to the wall and then cut up old sheets and weave them through in a pattern that we thought was interesting. I also added a few tissue paper flowers. It needs a few more but school took over my life and I just haven't gotten around to decorating in a while...

This is just to show you guys the rest of the apartment. This is just our little breakfast nook.

I didn't do this amazing piece of art. But my grandma who started me as an artist did and I've grown up looking at this painting and trying to figure out what it is. And I think I found my inspiration for my colors!

Well, thats my apartment! I hope you guys enjoyed the tour! I know its not much but it is really starting to get its own personality and I'm really enjoying it!

I'll try to post again soon with some of my projects outside of the apartment!!
